Esperanza Segarra is a seasoned trial and appellate attorney with more than two decades of experience representing public and private entities in complex commercial disputes, civil rights matters, and high-stakes litigation.
Esperanza Segarra
Of Counsel
Esperanza represents clients in federal and state courts across the country, focusing her practice on complex commercial litigation, intellectual property, directors and officers liability, insurance receiverships, and trade secrets litigation. She has served as lead counsel in matters involving multi-million-dollar insolvencies, constitutional challenges, and intellectual property disputes, and has co-authored amicus briefs before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Her career reflects a rare combination of private practice leadership, civil rights advocacy, and government receivership work. She has represented state agencies, national and international corporations, and high-net-worth individuals in cases ranging from insurance insolvencies to voting rights and immigrants’ rights litigation. Esperanza has also served as Senior Counsel with national civil rights organizations, litigating multi-state impact cases on voting rights, racial justice, and criminal justice reform.
In addition to her legal practice, Esperanza is a consultant with Cornell University and an adjunct professor at Rutgers Law School, where she teaches Trade Secrets. She is also an independent filmmaker, a veteran of the United States Air Force, and a proud mother. Her leadership and influence have been recognized nationally, including being named among Diversity MBA Magazine’s Top 100 Under 50 Diverse Executive Leaders (2017) and Top 100 Women of Influence (2020).
